So I know, I stink at updating regularly... But, I decided to share with yall some of my latest obsession, Graphic Arts. I am by no means a trained graphic artist, but I have been enjoying playing around in my CS5 to do some basic graphic arts work. So, enjoy my playing around...

Here are just a couple. Hopefully there will be more to come! Enjoy! ~Kaye

So, I kinda stink at this whole updating once a week thing, huh? Well, I DID try to do something I saw on pinterest.... it was a recipe, but I didn't get pictures.... It started with an idea I had from a package of Knorr Cheddar and Broccoli Rice... I thought it would be good with Chicken mixed in, but then I thought that MAYBE I could find a recipe out there to make it from scratch, so it was off to Pinterest... I found a link to Crock Pot Ladies whip it up Wednesday recipe for Crock Pot Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli. So, I made a quick stop by the grocery store to buy ingredients, and decided to try it... It turned out delicious, but I have a suggestion; it really doesn't help to try to make your rice in WITH the chicken, because it doesn't cook the same, especially if it is brown rice. So, while it turned out alright in the end, I think the next time I try the recipe I'll cook my rice in a separate crock pot, and I may try experimenting with velveeta cheese... but we will have to see about that!
What about you? Have you found any good recipes on Pinterest yet?

So, I am totally addicted to Pinterest. If you haven't checked it out, I would recommend that you do it now. :-) Ok, now that you are back, I'm going to make a pledge. I'm going to pledge to do one thing a week that I've pinned on my pinterest and post the process and results on here. Most likely it will end up being recipes  but it may end up being a craft, or a gift.
I will admit, I'm a bit nervous about posting my failures to the world, but hopefully through my failures people will be able to learn.... And maybe there will be some successes along the way. :-)
So, I'm still deciding what my first post will be... but if you have any ideas, feel free to pass them along! Be sure to follow me on Pinterest @KayeTay....

The Lamp is done!

So, I realized that I never posted a picture of the finished product.... so here you go, my Goodwill Lamp... Remember, it went from this:

To this:

I liked the matte gray a lot, so I decided to leave it that color and paint the lampshade in the metallic black. I think it turned out really well. So, I ended up with a lamp that would cost $100 or more in a store for only about $25. Not too shabby, plus it's an amazing conversation piece! :-) Now, go out and create something BEAUTIFUL!

So, I decided to take a break from this blog for a while, but now I'm back! I'm excited about my project that I'm working on, and I'm so glad I have this chance to share it with anyone who stumbles across this blog. I know it's simple, but it makes me happy. My classes for my masters program wrap up at the end of this month, so I'm hoping to be able to really work on the house and get stuff in order. I'm determined to be able to stay in the two bedroom apartment that we currently live in, though it would be nice to have a third bedroom, it's really not necessary. I'm determined to pare down our life, and to simplify everything. So, here we go, with the first project of the year...

The first Saturday of every month is always 50% off day at our local Goodwill. So, I went with a friend of mine, and found this awesome lamp:

It was a country blue color, and it had some chips and scratches in the paint, and needed new wiring. So, first of all I had to remove all the wiring so I could paint it....
There went the wires:

I had bought two cans of spray paint one to use as a base, and then a darker color to put over it. This was supposed to be the base coat.

And this was going to go over it. It's a black metallic paint...

Once the wires were removed it was time to paint... since the paint on it was matte and I planned on using the first color as a primer, I didn't do anything special to prep it before painting. So it was ready to go... (The mess under the box is an old table cloth I put down to keep the spray paint from messing up our deck.)
So, on went the coat of gray spray paint.

I'm thinking that I may leave it this matte gray color, it's really pretty, and the flowers on the lamp stand out really well... So, I'm going to check on it in the morning and see how it looks, if I decide to leave it matte gray then all I will have left to do is put in the new wiring with the kit I bought, and getting the lamp shade ready (Also bought at Goodwill.)

All in all the cost should be around $25-$30 dollars. Not too bad for a large lamp, and what's even better is it will make a great conversation piece when I tell people I upcycled it myself! :-)

A New Year

So, it's now 2012... I know I'm not the only one to say this, but I'm so glad 2011 is over. I can honestly say that I feel like I've walked through Hell and back, and now I'm moving forward. So, I decided not to make any resolutions this year, other then to just improve myself, little by little every day. I've started out with learning to use my bread machine to make things other then loaves of bread. I just pulled some sandwich buns out of the oven. It's a whole lot cheaper then buying them, and it's really rewarding knowing that I know exactly what is in the food I'm eating. Hopefully once school starts back I will be able to keep the momentum going and will be able to keep up with school, internship, and keeping the house in order. So, hopefully I'll update more and will have lots of new, fun projects to share! Happy 2012 everyone!

So, it's been a while!

I'm working on consistent posting, but with everything going on in my family, it's really hard! So, here is a post with my newest project: A Jewelry Box!! I found this jewelry box at Goodwill on 50% day. It was originally marked $5.99, so I ended up getting it for $3.00!!! I was able to use materials I already had around from other projects, so I ended up paying only $3.00... can't beat that! It only took about 2 nights to finish, and turned out great! I'm so excited about it!

 The before
 First step, PRIMING.
I used extra paint from my table.
 Colored the hook with sharpie
Got rid of the glass inside, and added some fabric I had
 The Finished Product!
I'm so happy with how it turned out! I can't wait until it's fully dried and ready to be used!
